Around Mandalay

- Amarapura : the capital of Konbaung Dynasty during the reign of King Bodawpaya. It lies on the let bank of Ayeyarwaddy River and it is the famous for silk weaving cottage industry and the bridge U Bein which crossed over the Taungthaman Inn. (lake)

- Innwa : the old city, long time capital of Myanmar, before Mandalay was built during the second Myanmar Empire. The intresting destinations in Innwa are Nanmyint Tower, Mahaaungmye Bonzan Monastery, Bagaya Monestry, lacquerware industry and Innwa bridge.

- Sagaing : once an ancient capital of Sagaing Dynasty, lies 21 km south west of Mandalay beside the Ayeyarwaddy River. Sagaing hills are known as a religious retreat where over 500 monasteries for monks and nuns are located.

- Mingun : a town which located about 11 km proverb from Mandalay, on the western bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River is well – known for its 90 tons Mingun bell, the largest ringing bell in the world; a mammoth unfinished Mingun pagoda, Settawya pagoda, Mya Theindan Pagoda and Hsinbyume Pagoda.

- Pyinoolwin : A charming little hill resort, over 1000 meters above sea – level, well - known for its colonial – style houses with large compound and pine trees, eucalyptus and silver oak abound in town. Delightfully cool and pleasant the whole year around.

- Monywa : the commercial center of Chintwin Valley lies 136 km north west of Mandalay and on the east bank of Chitwin River. The interesting sites in Monywa are Thanboddhay Pagoda and Powintaung Cave which contains Buddhist statues and murals dating to the 17th and 18th centuries.

- Shwebo : it is 64 miles north of Mandalay on the motor and railroad to Myitkyina.
The ruins of ancient culture can be seen at Hanlin, a few miles south of Shwebo.
